Why use bekane?

Give your teams a streamlined workspace that’s cloud-independent and easy to use

Bekane is designed for organizations that want to make the desktop environment easier to operate, more transparent to manage, and simpler to scale.
Built on Proxmox, the solution provides a central portal for accessing virtual desktops, managing permissions, orchestrating the VM lifecycle, and quickly restoring an environment in the event of an incident.
The goal is not merely to virtualize, but to make operations more robust: fewer manual tasks, greater standardization, tighter access control, and increased responsiveness for IT teams.

The platform addresses the challenges faced by IT departments that must manage multiple use cases, varying levels of sensitivity, and diverse user profiles.
It integrates with existing systems via LDAP, OIDC, RBAC, and monitoring, while remaining compatible with on-premises architecture, controlled data flows, and operational sovereignty principles.
Logs, administrative actions, and user operations are tracked, which facilitates both day-to-day operations and audit or compliance requirements.

What is it used for?

The solution for a wide range of use cases to optimize management

Bekane standardizes workstations, supports scalability, and adapts to any type of business. The solution addresses a specific challenge: centralizing, securing, and scaling virtual workstations with a tool capable of keeping pace with a company’s needs, regardless of its size.

Bekane addresses the specific needs of CIOs and business teams: secure remote work, isolated service providers, on-demand labs, specialized GPU workstations, legacy applications, and accelerated support. The solution leverages Proxmox to centralize access, automate provisioning, and quickly restore environments when needed

Secure remote work and mobility

Bekane centralizes workstations in the data center and exposes only a display stream, while the data remains in the IT system. Users can access their environment from another device in the event of a local workstation failure.

Standardization and Reduction of IT Support Costs

Bekane allows you to deploy standardized workstations using a few templates, which helps prevent issues related to malfunctioning workstations. Snapshots and quick restoration also reduce the time spent reinstalling or reconfiguring systems.

Service providers and subcontractors

The solution enables the allocation of dedicated, isolated, and traceable virtual workstations, with strict access rights and the ability to quickly revoke access if necessary. Authentication is based on LDAP or OIDC, and roles can be assigned by group.

On-demand training rooms and labs

For training organizations, skills centers, or IT departments that regularly host technical workshops, Bekane allows you to clone lab VMs on demand using Proxmox templates.

Bekane offers the flexibility needed to address a wide range of use cases; our teams will help you identify the specific benefits for your organization.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about our open-source IT solutions.

What is Bekane?

Bekane is a VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) broker solution specifically designed for Proxmox VE. It allows you to centralize, secure, and standardize virtual desktops in your data center, while providing users with a web portal to access their desktops from any device.

Which access protocols are supported?

Bekane supports the main protocols for connecting to VMs, including RDP, SPICE, and VNC. The web portal centralizes access and allows you to define access profiles tailored to specific use cases or user groups.

How does Bekane allocate resources to virtual positions?

Bekane provisions VMs by cloning Proxmox VE templates, which standardizes deployments and reduces manual tasks. The platform also supports scanning and synchronizing VMs and templates to maintain an up-to-date view of the environment.

Does Bekane support snapshots and restoration?

Yes. Bekane allows you to create and restore snapshots, which is useful for IT support, training, labs, or quickly resetting an environment. Supported actions also include starting, stopping, and resetting VMs.

Who is Bekane for?

Bekane is designed for organizations that want to centralize, secure, and simplify the management of their virtual desktops on Proxmox VE. It is ideal for those seeking an open-source, reversible VDI solution deployed 100% on-premise, featuring a web portal, LDAP/OIDC authentication, granular RBAC, and auditing.

What authentication methods are supported?

Bekane supports three modes: internal local accounts, LDAP authentication (Active Directory or generic LDAP), and OIDC authentication for SSO integration with an existing identity provider.

Peut-on gérer des droits d’accès différenciés ?

Yes, thanks to granular RBAC. Permissions can be defined by VM type, Proxmox pool, or individual VM, and tailored to specific scenarios such as service providers, IT support, or VIP profiles.

Is Bekane suitable for GPU VMs and resource-intensive workloads?

Yes. The project supports hardware-aware templates capable of specifying hardware constraints, including GPU requirements. Execution is then limited to compatible hypervisors, which prevents the creation of unusable VMs and ensures security for demanding workloads such as graphics workstations, AI, and inference.

Open-source project and community

Bekane was initially developed to address the specific needs of VDI orchestration on Proxmox VE, before evolving into a more comprehensive open-source platform. The project now relies on a dedicated backend to manage the lifecycle of VMs, user pools, access rights, and multiple connection modes, with a modular architecture designed for scalability.
It also relies on an official post-installation tool that simplifies the deployment of Core, Edge, and UI components, making the whole system more consistent, more reproducible, and easier to enhance over time. The project can thus be tracked, explored, and enhanced by a community that helps drive it forward.
